Howell's Spectacular Thelypody occurs only in the Baker-Powder River Valley in Union and Baker Counties, and the Willow Creek Valley in Malheur County. A large portion of this species' native habitat has been lost due to valley meadows being converted to agriculture, but it also faces threats from urban development, off-road vehicle use, and competition from non-native species.
