Domaine Willamette, Willamette Valley Vineyard

Jim and Jan Bernau, of Willamette Valley Vineyard asked me to make a special vineyard painting for their new large biodynamic project called Domaine Willamette in Yamhill County. They wanted a painting that reflected features of an Oregon vineyard and prominently highlighted the particular variety of rose, called “Oh My” that they plant at the end of every other row in the vineyard. The roses in the vineyard play a very important role and are not planted just to be aesthetically pleasing, even though they are that. Roses act like a “canary in the coal mine” for the vineyard because they are sensitive to mold, pests and diseases, they will show signs of these problems before they might affect the grape vines and raise the alarm to threats that need to be addressed before they can take hold in the vines.

I needed to make a painting that featured these particular roses and reflected a true Oregon vineyard feel. I was amused that Jim specifically said that he absolutely did not want any grapes in the painting! So - there are no grapes! I am truly honored and grateful to have my work featured at this beautiful project!

The final painting is 7’ tall by almost 5’ wide.

Client Commission: Garden Painting

Some clients who had purchased one of my paintings asked if I could make a special painting of a scene reflecting the garden around their home. I visited their property and made some drawings of ideas that they could choose from. We agreed on one of them and the painting below is the end result. The final painting is 4’ tall x 5’ wide.
